Legalities & Logistics for Getting Married at an Oregon Location

When planning a wedding in Oregon, it's essential to consider the legal and logistical requirements. Apart from obtaining a marriage license from your county clerk's office, you may need permits depending on your chosen location. Permit regulations vary across Oregon, affecting state and city parks, trails, and more. Here are some resources to help you navigate through the process:

Portland City Park Permits:
Popular spots like Cathedral Park and Hoyt Arboretum will necessitate applications to secure your venue. The City of Portland offers valuable information on permits and reservations for couples planning an elopement or micro wedding in a scenic city park.

State Park Permits:
Contact the park where you intend to hold your ceremony or the nearest park for discussions. Reach out to the Information Line at 800-551-6949 to obtain the contact details of the nearest park. Inform them of your expected guest count (as most parks have limits) to determine the appropriate permit. Depending on your venue and guest count, a special use permit for "non-traditional park activities" may be required, as specified in the Oregon Administrative Rule.

Be Ready with a Clear Umbrella: Oregon weather can be unpredictable, so it's wise to have a clear umbrella handy. They offer protection and add a photogenic touch to your elopement photos.

Expect Your Attire to Get Messy: Whether your elopement takes place in a forest or by the ocean, anticipate that your wedding attire may get dirty during the adventure the ground in the PNW is always moist.
